Training Resources

The Minors on Campus Regulation requires many layers of training for all Covered Individuals or individuals, paid or unpaid, 18 years or older who works closely with, provide supervision of, or take custody of Minors in connection with a Covered Program.  Please review training requirements below.

Staff Orientation

Each program must complete a staff training to familiarize employees and volunteers with their program. This training should minimally cover the following topics:

  • Responsibilities and expectations
  • Policies, procedures, and enforcement
  • Appropriate crisis/emergency responses when on or off University Property
  • Safety and security precautions
  • Confidentiality issues involving youth
  • Child abuse prevention, abuse awareness, and mandated reporting
  • University liabilities
  • How to request local emergency services and report suspected child abuse

Additionally, each Covered Individual will need to certify that they have reviewed the content found in the PowerPoint training link below. If a staff member chooses to review the training during Staff Orientation, each individual must still follow the Qualtrics link on the last slide to acknowledge and agree that they have reviewed the content found within. This training is required annually.

Stewards of Children: Darkness to Light Training

All ECU-Sponsored and Affiliated Programs must provide Covered Individuals with Stewards of Children: Darkness to Light Training. In-person training is hosted by the TEDI BEAR Children’s Advocacy Center for free. Online certification costs $10/person, directly through the D2L.org website. The department housing the program covers to the cost of the training. This training will provide staff with information related to how to prevent, recognize, and respond to child sexual abuse. This training requires 2 to 2.5 hours. To schedule a large group training, please contact Kia Glosson at glossonk15@ecu.edu for more information. This training is required every 2 years.
